Reference is made to the Tender Notice that appeared in the Authority’s website and the Local Dailies dated 27th October, 2023, and the long Advert  dated 6th November, 2023 that appeared on our website on 6th November,2023 addendum No1 issued on 17th November, 2023 and addendum No2 issued on 24th November, 2023.

100 SPECIAL SPECIFICATIONS.

Special specification is supplementary to the Standard Specifications and the two must be read in conjunction. In any case where there appears to be conflict between the two then the Special Specifications will take precedence.

101 LOCATION OF PROJECT

The project roads are located in Kitutu Chache North Constituency of Kisii County and are approximately 64.6 km in length.

The roads traverse rolling and mountainous terrain.

The Project Roads comprise links tabulated below: -

  • EXTENT OF CONTRACT.

The works to be executed under the Contract comprise mainly of but are not limited to the following:-

  1. Provision of facilities to the supervising Employer’s staff.
  2. Site clearance and top soil stripping.
  3. Construction of 350mm improved subgrade of minimum CBR of 10% (G10) in two layers of 175 mm each as shown on the drawings or as instructed by the Engineer
  4. Construction of cement/lime improved gravel sub-base of minimum CBR of 60% (HIG 60) to a finished thickness of 150mm or as instructed by the Engineer. Extend this to the shoulders.
  5. Construction of cement/lime improved gravel base of minimum CBR of 160% (HIG160) to a finished thickness of 125mm or as instructed by the Engineer. Extend this to the shoulders.
  6. Laying and compacting of 35mm thick Asphalt concrete type II (0/14 mm) wearing course on carriageway and shoulders or as instructed by the Engineer
  7. The carriageway shall be 6.0m wide with shoulders (0.5m wide) constructed with the material and thickness for sub-base and base as above.
  8. Construction of standard pipe culverts, box culverts, bridges and the improvement of other drainage and soil erosion protection works.
  9. Relocation of services as necessary.
  10. Installation of road furniture.
  11. Maintenance of passage of traffic through and around the works.
  12. Maintenance of works during construction. The defects liability period shall be 12 months.
  13. Any other activity not listed above either category but deemed to be necessary by the Employer, shall be subject to the Employer’s formal instructions and within the mode of payment stipulated either by day works or on a measured basis.

  1. Reinstatement of worn-out shoulders and edges including benching as instructed by The Engineer.
  2. Pavement repairs and pothole patching using Asphalt concrete Type II where necessary as instructed by the Engineer.
  3. Scarification of the failed existing base layer and surfacing, top up with suitable gravel, process and compact to form Cement/Lime Improved Gravel Base (HIG160) to a finished thickness of 125mm or as instructed by the Engineer
  4. Laying and compacting of 35mm thick Asphalt concrete type II (0/14 mm) wearing course on carriageway and shoulders or as instructed by the Engineer
  5. Cleaning of side ditches, and desilting of existing culverts, outfalls, and mitre drains to the instructed cross-section and invert levels as instructed by the Engineer.
  • That section 2702 has  been amended to read as follows: -

That BOQ’S for tender no.RWC 652 has been  revised and uploaded to the Authorities website www.kerra.go.ke  to reflect the corrections and is  attached as (Annex 1).Bidders are required to download the corrected BOQ’S and use the in preparing their Bids. 

  1. Opening of the bids will take place immediately thereafter (from the respective dates and time as per tender Addendum No 1) at the Ground Floor Board Room, Barabara Plaza, Block B in the presence of the tenderers or their representatives who choose to attend.
  2. Bids not received at the submission venue by the closing date and time will not be accepted for opening and will be rejected and returned unopened.
  3. Errors in the pricing of the Bills of Quantities will not be corrected. Bidders with such errors will be disqualified.
  4. All interested bidders are required to continually check the Kenya Rural Roads Authority website kerra.go,ke for any tender addendums or clarifications that may arise before submission date.
