The Kenya Rural Roads Authority takes pride in fulfilling the mandate bestowed upon it by the Government of Kenya, which is to develop, construct and maintain the rural road network in the country as per the Kenya Roads Act, 2007.

This mandate has since been revised via the Kenya Gazette Legislative Supplement No. 4 (Special Edition) of 22nd January 2016 in compliance with the Constitution of Kenya 2010.

Since the gazettement of the inaugural Board of Directors in April 2008, subsequent Boards have overseen significant progress in the development of the rural road network with approximately 6500 Km of roads upgraded to Bitumen Standards, and several kilometres maintained through the RMLF annually.

Within the next several years and beyond, Kenya Vision 2030 aims to transform Kenya into a newly industrialized nation where every citizen enjoys a high standard of living.

During the strategy period, the economy is predicted to grow at an average annual rate of 10% over 25 years. As this economic blueprint illustrates, building an effective road network is essential to enabling the major economic sectors and realizing this expansion.

The ongoing development of rural road infrastructure is directly supported by government policies, most notably the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

Presently, the National Government is committed to complete all ongoing road projects in all the 47 counties. Borrowing from the Ministry’s tagline seamless connectively the Authority endevours to establish a network felt at both the micro and macro levels.

The creation of employmemt opportunities providing access to amenities and enhance communication within project areas.

The Board of Directors continues to actively oversee activities aimed at increasing and sustaining the Authority’s achievements to meet the ever-changing road users’ needs. One such approach is strengthening strategic relationships with our key stakeholders.

Upholding good corporate governance practices continues to be integral to the Board’s long-term plan and is considered essential in delivering the Authority’s strategy.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, Management and Staff of the Authority, I express my sincere gratitude to the Government of Kenya; Ministry of Roads and Transport; related Road Agencies; Kenyan taxpayers; Development Partners and all stakeholders for their continued support.

This has engendered a solid institution that is alive to its stakeholders’ expectations. It is our undertaking as a Board that we shall endeavor to surpass stakeholder expectations, while Connecting Devolved Kenya.
