Boost for Connectivity and Economic Growth as Key Roads Launched in Nyandarua County
Nyandarua County marked a significant milestone in its infrastructure development agenda on June 26th, following the official launch of two key road projects aimed at enhancing connectivity and unlocking the region’s economic potential. The Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport, Mr. Davis Chirchir, led the launch ceremony, accompanied by the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Ms. Rebecca Miano and the Principal Secretary for Roads, Eng. Joseph Mbugua.
The projects include the 23-kilometre Haraka–Kageraini–Rwanyambo–Karengatha–Kinamba Road and the 37-kilometre Ithagani–Ngorika / Ngorika–Mbaruk / Ngorika–Kanyiri Road. These strategic road networks traverse key agricultural zones within Nyandarua County and are expected to significantly improve access, mobility, and service delivery for local communities.
Speaking during the launch, CS Chirchir underscored the Government’s commitment to strengthening road infrastructure as a driver of socio-economic transformation. He noted that the improved road networks will ease the transportation of agricultural produce, particularly potatoes, vegetables and dairy products, which are the backbone of Nyandarua’s economy. Reduced travel time and lower transport costs are expected to translate into better market access for farmers and increased household incomes.
CS Rebecca Miano highlighted the importance of infrastructure in supporting tourism growth, noting that improved accessibility will open up Nyandarua’s scenic landscapes and natural attractions to both local and international visitors. She emphasized that better roads will facilitate seamless travel, enhance visitor experience and promote investment in eco-tourism ventures within the region.
On his part, Principal Secretary Eng. Joseph Mbugua reiterated the Ministry’s focus on delivering quality, durable roads that meet the needs of wananchi. He assured residents that the projects will be implemented to the highest standards, ensuring long-term value and sustainability.
The upgraded roads are also expected to improve access to essential services, including healthcare, education and markets, thereby enhancing the overall quality of life for residents. Additionally, the projects will create employment opportunities for local communities during the construction phase, contributing to income generation and skills development.
Local leaders and residents welcomed the projects, expressing optimism that the improved infrastructure will spur economic activity, attract investment and foster inclusive growth across the county.
The launch of these roads reaffirms the Government’s continued investment in infrastructure development as a cornerstone for national growth, regional integration and improved livelihoods for all Kenyans.
