GERMAN DEVELOPMENT BANK (KfW)

KfW Development Bank has been helping the German Federal Government to achieve its goals in development policy and international development cooperation for more than 60 years. They are both an experienced bank and a development institution with financing expertise, an expert knowledge of development policy and many years of national and international experience.

On behalf of the German Federal Government, and primarily the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), they finance and support programs and projects that mainly involve public sector players in developing countries and emerging economies – from their conception and execution to monitoring their success.

Linking farmers to markets through improvement of Rural Roads in Western Kenya (Phase II):

(BMZ 2013 65 378, 1930 05 733; KfW 505162)

The program concerns the rehabilitation of rural roads to both gravel standards and Low Volume sealed roads and 80 km improvement of Roads to gravel standard.The program targets the counties of Vihiga, Kakamega and Trans-Nzoia.

Funding:

The project is funded by the German Development Bank (KfW) and the Government of Kenya through both loans and grants. Loan and financing agreements were signed on 9th March, 2022. The program comprises of Loan and grant agreements. The agreements are as follows;

  • Loan amounting to 17 Million Euros
  • Grant amounting to 1.2 Million Euros
  • GOK component amounting to 1.8 Million Euros

Endowment of Regional Offices

There will be an endowment component specifically targeted for Trans-Nzoia Regional KeRRA office.

Procurement of Project management Consultant (PMC)

Procurement of Project Management Consultants (PMC) in progress. The Procurement started in September, 2022 where an Expression of Interest was advertised. After evaluation 8 no. Firms were invited to submit the Technical and Financial Proposals on 13 March, 2024. KfW has given no- objection for re-tendering due to the fact that the Bidder’s proposals were highly priced beyond the budget.

Commencement Date

Commencement date of PMC will be done once the Procurement process is concluded and a Contract is signed.
